I have read many of the ancient sources on the 2nd Punic war but I have never read one that has described Hannibal as black. Thank you for being the first person to respond to me with info on are topic. What would have been his reason to say Hannibal was not black?Ījani Thomas I'm sorry I actually had not seen your response till now because I was writing my previous response when your past post was posted. Through out his whole work he criticizes historians who do not use first hand live examples as sources. He writes glowingly of Hannibal and would have no reason to change history. If you read his work he has no bias in it. Why are you not convinced by history writers? The man who has the most detailed work on the 2nd Punic war who also lived during it was a Greek man named Polybius sent to live in captivity in Italy after they had been defeated by the Romans. Which they would have done because very few of them would have ever seen a black man. How does Hannibal having a extended stay in Europe make him black? If anything that would have given more people a chance to see him and write down that he was black. Because I am not the one "denying away" I am providing evidence while you and Dan Lee deny away. I'm fine with that but I'm just trying to provide evidence for my side of the argument.

What do you say to this? I will wait 😉Īl Jones Yes me and you both can think whatever we both want to. They are forever portrayed as Northern European when in fact they are for more semitic in appearance. I'm sure we could go on for ages arguing the race of the Greeks. You can believe what you wish, but I will stick with the historians and clear evidence on this one. The Northern peoples you se today are highly mixed, which I can say are not of the same blood we have seen throughout history (Islamic Invasion – 750 AD and onwards). On top of that, the regions which was Carthage before its fall, became the original Moorish empire, which stretched far past Spain and Italy as well. As well as a host of Carthaginian artifacts, depicting him similar to what you see here. Historians of the time described him in a quite similar fashion as the late Ethiopian/Axum class. However, resources have made it quite clear, the race of the African leader. Vinny Siracusa I see who have brought a quite intelligence argument to the table my friend. She likely by this point though did have Egyptian mixed, but not much because the Ptolemy's married Brother to Sister in the Egyptian fashion to maintain bloodlines when available. She is a decedent of the Alexander the Great's general Ptolemy who took ownership of Egypt after his death. I don't know why you are bringing up Cleopatra but she was a majority Greek. This coin was also found in Itay where Pyrrhus invaded the Romans also with Elephants about 60 years before Hannibal invaded Italy. Hannibal had the smaller now extinct north African bush elephant. This is because the elephant depicted on the coin is a Indian elephant which Hannibal did not have. I have also read that this said coin could likely be a coin depicting a elephant rider of Pyrrhus the king of Epirus. And if the Carthaginians where black why would they have put all white appearing people on the thousands of other coins we have found besides this one in this article. As I have said he went into great detail to describe minute details of the 2nd Punic war. If Polbius did think Hannibal was black he would have wrote that MAJOR point down. He also isn't the only person who lived back then who has wrote of the 2nd Punic war and not one thought Hannibal was a darker skinned man then the common Roman, Iberian, Greek, or Semitic. Dan Lee How is Polybius maintaining the status que? He LIVED back then and had first had references to what was going on back then along with living back then.
